$1400 of the Average Chrysler Car Goes Towards Health Care

With about $1400 going towards the average Chrysler car, the auto company is looking to slim down the cost in order to compete with the Asian auto makers. "Chrysler Group Chief Executive Tom LaSorda said the U.S. unit of DaimlerChrysler AG (DCX) stands to save $350 million in annual health-care costs and between $2 billion and $3 billion in longer-term medical-benefit expense liabilities, or OPEB, if the company can win the same kind of concessions from the United Auto Workers that its domestic rivals received in 2005"
