Smokers Might Fund Children Insurance
Smokers in Oregon might foot the bill for children's health insurance. It is argued that,
"Raising Oregon's cigarette tax to $2.02 per pack would cause smokers to buy 28 million fewer packs of cigarettes per year, but still would generate more than enough money to provide health insurance to all uninsured Oregon children."
It is claimed that, "Sharply higher cigarette taxes would raise an additional $180 million for the next budget and $235 million for the 2009-11 budget"
